16 gates of Kaptai Dam were opened

Karnaphuli Water Power Plant has decided to release water through the Kaptai Dam as the water level of Kaptai Lake in Rangamati has reached the dangerous level due to continuous rains and water coming down from the upstream. Today Sunday (August 25) at 8:30 am, 16 spillways of Kaptai Dam have been opened to 6 inches. In this, 9000 cusecs of water is falling into Karnaphuli river every second. The information was confirmed by ATM Abduzzah, Manager of Kaptai Water Power Station.

Kaptai Water Power Plant confirmed this information through a notification yesterday Saturday (August 24) afternoon.

Before this, the chairman of the lake management committee and the deputy commissioner. Mosharraf Hossain Khan said that the water in Kaptai Lake has reached the dangerous limit. A decision has been made to avoid the risk of damming and follow the rule curve to release the lake water. Initially, it was decided to open 16 gates six inches on Saturday evening. He said, water is released like this every year. So he urged everyone not to panic.
