Recently, a total of 172 people died in Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DHMC) during the nationwide anti-discrimination student movement. Director of Dhamek Hospital, Brigadier General Md. gave this information in a press conference on Thursday (August 29). Asaduzzaman.
Brigadier Asaduzzaman said that a total of 172 people died in DMK Hospital during the student movement. Of these, 84 died in hospital and 88 were brought in dead.
He said most of the dead died from gunshot wounds, particularly headshots and chest shots. 85 percent of the dead have been autopsied.
Regarding the reason for not conducting the post-mortem, he said, post-mortem work is the responsibility of the police. When the police case, the body is sent to the morgue and the forensic medicine department conducts the autopsy. In the first phase, autopsies were conducted on all the victims who died between August 15 and 22.
But some of the bodies that came dead in the second phase were not autopsied, as the police were not there for almost a week. Some family members objected to the autopsy, even though they were told it was important to the trial.
He also said that those who died after being admitted to the hospital, have all the information and have been given death certificates. However, it was not possible to issue certificates to the deceased persons due to lack of correct information.
Brigadier Asaduzzaman said about the bereft bodies, the identity of some bodies is not known. Police identified the identity through fingerprints. The bodies of those whose identity could not be identified were given to Anjumane Mofidul Islam. The police can tell the exact number.
