18 forest workers rescued after 48 hours of abduction in Teknaf

18 forest workers were rescued after 48 hours of abduction in Cox's Bazar's Teknaf. The abductors released the abductees in Jadimura and Jummapara hilly areas of the upazila at around 6 pm on Tuesday (December 31). Later they were rescued and taken into the custody of RAB-15.

Senior Assistant Director of RAB-15 Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Kamruzzaman said that RAB and other forces have been carrying out an operation in the mountains since Monday to rescue the abductees. At one point the kidnappers released 18 workers. They are in RAB custody unharmed.

Earlier in the afternoon, two persons were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the incident. They will undergo preliminary interrogation.

Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Cox's Bazar South Forest Division. Nurul Islam said, miscreants kidnapped 18 workers engaged in forestry work in the hills. RAB and other law enforcement agencies conducted an operation in the hills to rescue them. The kidnappers released the 18 workers on Tuesday evening. However, no ransom was given by the workers.

Forest department officer. Nurul Islam also said that a complaint has been lodged at the police station regarding the abduction of 18 workers. Two suspects are detained in this incident. The next legal process in this regard will be completed in phases.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday morning, the kidnappers abducted 8 local residents from an area called Pahari Dhalla on the Hoikung-Shamlapur road in Teknaf along with a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw and took them to the mountains. Later in the operation, two CNG autorickshaws were recovered but the abductees were not found.

Last Monday (December 30) at 11:00 pm, a group of armed terrorists abducted Jasim Uddin (35) from his shop in Teknaf's Baharchhara Bara Deil area. He is the son of Nazim Uddin Master, a resident of Ward No. 8, Baharchhara Bara Dail.
