200 train coaches are being bought from India


Bangladesh Railway will buy 200 passenger coaches from India. For this purpose, the Railways has signed an agreement with the Indian state organization Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RETES) on Monday (May 20) afternoon.

The Railways said that the total cost of the project of collecting 200 coaches has been estimated at 1,298 crore 58 lakh 77 thousand 139 taka ($116 taka 71 paisa). Each compartment will cost 6 crore 49 rupees.

The duration of this project is from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2026. The project is jointly financed by the Government of Bangladesh and the European Investment Bank (EIB).

Railway Minister Md. Zillul Hakim said that the coaches are expected to come to the country within 20 months of signing the contract. Railways need more coaches. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given instructions to purchase the required number of coaches.

At that time, Railway Secretary Humayun Kabir said, 'Recently, the railway connection has been established in the southern part. By doing this, the communication of southern districts with Dhaka is increasing. As a result, these passenger carriages will speed up rail communication.

Railway officials including Director General of Railways Sardar Shahadat Ali, Chairman and Managing Director of Indian Company Rahul Mittal, Additional Member of Production Unit of Indian Railways Sanjay Kumar Pankaj and Head of Corporation of European Union Mitchell Creja were present on the occasion.
