2013 list of those killed in Hefazat rally published

The human rights organization Adhikar has released a list of names of people who were extrajudicially killed by security forces on May 5 and 6, 2013, at Shapla Chattar in Motijheel of the capital.

The list was published on Monday (August 19) on the Facebook page of Adhikar.

The agency said it conducted a fact-finding mission on indiscriminate killings by security forces in 2013 and published a report citing 61 deaths. Due to the publication of that report, the Awami League government filed a case under Section 57 of the Restrictive Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act, 2006 (Amended 2009) against the then Secretary of Rights Adilur Rahman Khan and the current director of the organization ASM Nasir Uddin Elan.

The organization also said that since 2013, the fascist Awami League government launched a massive crackdown on Adhikari and its leaders through repression, surveillance, harassment by authorities and negative propaganda by pro-government media. After more than a decade of judicial harassment, on September 14, 2023, Dhaka Cyber ​​Tribunal Judge AM Zulfiqar Hayat announced the verdict and fined Adilur Rahman Khan and ASM Nasir Uddin Elan under the ICT Act 10,000 rupees under the ICT Act for publishing a fact-finding report on extrajudicial killings. Sentenced to two years imprisonment. Justice of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court after being imprisoned for 31 days in the Dhaka Central Jail located in Keraniganj. When Emdadul Haque Azad granted bail to both of them, both were released from prison on October 15, 2023.

Adhikar called on the interim government to immediately set up an independent commission of inquiry headed by a Supreme Court judge to bring the culprits to justice through an impartial investigation into the extrajudicial killings that took place on 5 and 6 May 2013.
