At least 25 people were killed when a bus carrying passengers plunged into a ditch while driving through a mountain road in Peru. 13 more people were injured in this incident.
Citing local officials, Reuters reported this information in a report on Tuesday (April 30).
According to reports, Olga Bobadilla, provincial prosecutor of Peru's Cajamarca region, told local radio station RPP that the bus was traveling from Celendin to the city of Sorochuco on Sunday (April 28) evening. Due to the uneven road, the bus suddenly overturned and crashed into the river. The accident is still being collected.
The local government has declared three days of mourning for the accident.
Selendin commissioner Alexander Uriart said in an interview to TV channel Canal N that 25 people were killed and 13 others, including the bus driver, were injured in the accident.
Bus accidents are very common in Peru. Accidents are frequent especially at night and on hilly roads.
