According to the notification, the mayors of the following municipalities in Bangladesh have been removed from their respective posts by applying section 32(a) of the Local Government (Municipalities) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024.
A government bulletin on Monday (19 August) said that the government can remove mayors and councilors of any city corporation and municipality in the public interest if the special circumstances are deemed necessary. Similarly, the chairman and members of the zilla parishad and the chairman, vice chairman and female vice chairmen of the upazila parishad can be removed. At the same time, the government can appoint administrators in these.
