4 lakh families are trapped in water in 8 districts due to flood, 29 lakh people are affected

Eight districts of the country are affected by floods and about four and a half lakh families in these districts are trapped in water.

KM Ali Reza, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, gave this information in the regular briefing of the ministry at the secretariat today, Thursday (August 22).

He said, 'According to the information available till 1 pm today, eight districts have been affected by floods so far. The districts are – Feni, Comilla, Chittagong, Khagrachari, Noakhali, Moulvibazar, Habiganj and Brahmanbaria.'

He further said, 'Among these eight districts, 50 upazilas have been flooded and 357 unions have been affected. In these eight districts, four lakh 40 thousand 840 families are in water-tight condition. Affected people are 29 lakh four thousand 964 people. So far two people have died in Feni and Brahmanbaria.'

Stating that 1,534 shelters have been opened, he said, '75,678 people have taken shelter till 1.30 pm today. About seven and a half thousand cattle have taken shelter in the shelters. A total of 444 medical teams are working in eight districts. Army and Navy are working in Feni.'

At this time, it was informed that 160 members of the army and 40 rescue vehicles were sent to Feni. A water treatment plant has been set up. 71 Navy personnel and eight rescue vessels are on duty. Besides, BGB and others are carrying out rescue operations with boats.
