42 arrested along with the upazila chairman in connection with the clash in Faridpur


The police have conducted a joint operation in two separate clashes in Saltha of Faridpur based on the spread of dominance and trivial incidents. At this time Saltha Upazila Chairman Md. 42 people including Wadud Matubbar have been arrested.

Faridpur Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) Mohammad Imdad Hussain confirmed their arrest on Monday (April 15) afternoon. Earlier on Sunday (April 14) they were arrested by conducting raids in different areas of Saltha Upazila.

According to district police sources, on Sunday (April 14) in Kanthalbaria village of Salthar Gotti Union, miscreants attacked the house of the opponent with indigenous weapons and set fire to the house after extensive vandalism and looting. Saltha Upazila Chairman Md. conducted a police raid on the allegations related to this incident. 30 people including Wadud Matubbar were arrested.

On the other hand, on Saturday (April 13) afternoon, two groups of A-League clashed and vandalized houses in Mazhardia village of Mazhardia union of the upazila. At least 25 people including a brave freedom fighter were injured. At least 20 of the injured have been admitted to various hospitals in Faridpur.

The police arrested 12 other people in a raid on the same night on charges related to the incident.

In this regard, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Saltha police station Mohammad Faizur Rahman said, 'A total of 42 people were arrested on Sunday night after a joint operation by the district detective (DB) police and the police station. Among them, 30 people were arrested in the Kanthalbaria incident of Salthar Gotti Union and another 12 people were arrested in the Mazhardia village incident.

In this regard, Faridpur Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) Mohammad Imdad Hussain said that they have been arrested for their involvement in two separate clashes in Saltha. Two separate cases have been filed in those two incidents. The police operation is continuing to arrest the remaining accused involved in these two cases.
