1 thousand 198 metric tons of potatoes were imported in 47 Indian trucks at Hili land port, a day before the closure of six consecutive days of Holy Eid and Pahela Baisakh.
Which is the highest after potato import permission, said the concerned. Importers said that there is no possibility of price increase even though the import is stopped during the Eid holiday due to the record amount of potatoes being imported.
Last Monday (April 8) from morning to evening, these potatoes entered Hili land port from India.
Hili Land Port Public Relations Officer Sohrab Hossain Mallik confirmed the matter.
He said that earlier on the 3rd of this month, 678 metric tons of potatoes were imported in 26 trucks. Which was the highest potato import volume at this port.
Sohrab Hossain Mallik said, on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr and Pahela Baishakh, the import and export of Hili land port has been closed for 6 consecutive days from Tuesday, but Panama Port has been loading and unloading goods normally except for official holidays. Hence potato trucks are being exempted to meet the demand of importers who have imported record quantities of potatoes.
