5 cows died of unknown disease in Magura


In Magura, five cows of a family have died due to an unknown disease in the last five days. Initially, they think that the family has suffered a loss of several lakhs of rupees.

The cow farmers of that village are panicking over the death of five cows in a span of five days. But doctors say, feeding on Napier grass can lead to death due to night poisoning.

The death of the cow happened in Bansh Kotha village of Atharokhada union of Sadar upazila of Magura. Five cows belonging to Pradeep Kumar Biswas of that village fell ill on Wednesday (April 3). Later five cows died one by one. The farmer said that the approximate value of the cows is Tk 7 lakh.

Earlier on Tuesday, a cow belonging to Karthik Chandra Mallik died near Pradeep Kumar's house. The price of which is two and a half to three lakh taka. Farmer Pradeep Kumar Biswas said, 'Five cows were shown to the local doctor, but one cow died that night. The doctors did not know exactly what the disease was. Now one of the cows I have is sick. I don't know if it will survive. The value of the five cows that have died is Rs 7 lakh.

Mrs. Mandal, wife of another farmer Kartik Chandra Mandal, said, 'One of our eight cows died on Tuesday. Its price is two and a half lakh rupees. I don't understand why he died. Now I am afraid of what will happen to the remaining cows.'

Babu Lal Biswas of Bansh Kotha village said, 'Most of the houses in the village have cows. The sudden death of six cows of two families due to an unknown disease has left the villagers worried. It is necessary to quickly find out what exactly is causing the cows to die.'

District livestock officer Dr. Mihir Kanti Biswas said that cattle may die due to nitrite poisoning due to excess feeding of Napier grass and lentil. However, this doctor thinks that it is necessary to examine the grasses to know the exact cause of death.
