Several districts of Feni and Lakshmipur have been affected by floods for more than a week. The flood water is receding slowly. A large number of people are still trapped in water. So people's suffering is not decreasing.
Vast areas of 5 upazilas are still under water in Lakshmipur. Ban water is coming down slowly. Scars are starting to show.
Fresh water and food shortages have become evident. One million Banvasis are spending their days in extreme suffering. Even though relief assistance has been provided by government and private initiatives, the victims say that it is insufficient. Water-borne diseases are spreading in flood-affected areas.
The flood situation in Feni has improved but the suffering has not eased. Many areas of Sadar, Sonagazi and Daganbhuyan upazilas are still submerged. About 5 lakh people are spending days under water. Many spend their days in shelters.
As the water recedes, the relief distribution has returned to speed, but there is still a food crisis. Residents of the areas where Ban water has receded are busy repairing their houses. According to the local administration, 23 deaths have been confirmed in the district so far.
