8 billion dollars in damage to US bases in two weeks due to Iranian attacks

Iranian attacks on US military bases in the Middle East caused about $8 billion in damage in the first two weeks of the war. This information has emerged in a joint analysis by the US think tank Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and the BBC.

According to the new analysis, Tehran's retaliatory strikes targeting various bases in the Middle East in the week after the US and Israel launched an attack on Iran on February 28 caused the most damage.

The full picture of the total damage caused by Iran's attacks on US bases in 22 days is not yet clear. However, the initial estimate of 80 crores is more than the previous estimate. It is clear that the prolongation of the conflict is costing the US a great deal of money.

Mark Kanian, co-author of the analysis and senior adviser at CSIS, said the damage to US bases in the region has been understated. The damage seems to be too high though. The full amount will not be known until more information is available.

The BBC contacted the US State Department about the damage to US military bases. However, the State Department sought comment on the matter from Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees US military forces in the Middle East. Centcom was later contacted but declined to comment.

Where is the damage done?

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched a simultaneous attack on Iran. Since then, Iran has been attacking various US bases in Jordan, Qatar, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates. Tehran's attack targeted US air defense systems, satellite communications systems.

The worst damage was done to a US airbase in Jordan. A part of the US THAAD missile system has been completely disabled there. CSIS conducted an analysis citing US Department of Defense documents. It showed that the US AN/TPY-2 radar system suffered at least 48.5 million dollars worth of damage. It is used to counter long-range ballistic missiles.

In addition, the analysis report revealed that the buildings, military and other infrastructures hit by Iran's attacks targeting the US military bases and US military positions in the Middle East caused an additional 310 million dollars in damages.

Analyzing images from artificial satellites, the BBC has found that at least three US air bases have been attacked multiple times. These three bases are Ali Al-Salem in Kuwait, Al-Udeid in Qatar and Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia.

At least 13 American soldiers have been killed in the ongoing war. Meanwhile, the US-based organization Human Rights Activist News Agency said that about 3 thousand 200 people have lost their lives in the ongoing war. Among them are 1 thousand 400 civilians including women and children.
