Body recovered after 1 day in Sherpur shop fire incident

A terrible fire broke out in a commercial building in Bogra's Sherpur Upazila on Saturday (01 June) at 11:30 p.m. In this incident, on Sunday (June 2) night, oil lorry (truck) helper Rahmat Ali (32) recovered the body and the owner of the shop was trying to hide the body. After learning about the incident, the police of Sherpur police station recovered the body and arrested two people. The deceased Rahmat Ali is the son of Ashan Sardar of Bongabasar village of Shajadpur police station.

The arrested are – Druck Driver Anwar Hossain (37) and Helper Shipon (25).

Video footage and locals said that oil was being stored in drums from oil lorries (trucks) on Saturday night. At that time, the first explosion happened (video) then the oil lorry (truck) helper Rahmat Ali died instantly. Shahidul Islam and Khadir Ali who were working in the shop were burnt in the fire. At that time, 3-4 people including shop owner Rafiqul Islam Jinnah, employee Shahidul were running around. Later, when the 2nd explosion occurred, the driver of the oil lorry (truck) along with the shop owner left without telling anyone. Shahidul Islam and Khadir Ali were admitted to Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for treatment. People started coming after seeing the fire.

Even the fire spread within moments. Flames started coming out from the oil shop and godown. At the same time, the explosion of the gas cylinder in that shop started. The loud noise caused extreme panic among the people around. Later, when they took position on the Dhaka-Bogra highway, the traffic stopped. Cars move slowly when there is heavy traffic. Later, Sherpur fire service and eight neighboring units simultaneously tried to bring the fire under control for three hours.

A local, who did not wish to be named, said that they were cleaning the shop when the fire broke out in the shop. At this time, human bones and skin can be seen. Then they didn't clean it anymore and kept it secret. Later, at around 8:30 pm, the bodies were recovered and secretly sent to their families in a truck along with some money. But Shajadpur police station came to know about the matter and arrested the truck driver and helper along with the body.

Rafiqul Hasan, the elder brother of the deceased, said that my younger brother Rahmat died on the 1st. Then we contacted two people named Harun and Farid from our area and sent the body to Shajadpur. However, they took us 30 to 40 km away from our house and did not drop the body there. Later, when we tried to contact our family, people found out. The police got the information and arrested the driver and helper of the truck. and recovered the body.

Another brother of the deceased said that the body was wrapped in a polythene and made a sack. Then the bag is cut off the mouth of a drum and sent to a minitruck inside the drum.

In this regard, Sherpur police station officer in-charge Rezaul Karim said that preparations are underway to file a case against them.
