Demanded resignation of 3 professors including TST director

The students are demanding the resignation of Jahangirnagar University (JAB) Student-Teacher Center (TSC) Director Professor Ahmed Reza and Additional Director Professor Mohammad Ashraful Habib. They claimed that Chhatra League was conducting political activities under the guise of cultural organization in student-teacher center.

In addition, Dr. Jabir, professor of philosophy department, accused of inciting the police attack on students. The students of the same department held a protest march and human chain for four-point demands including the resignation of Farid Ahmed.

Students demanded the resignation of the three professors in a separate program on Sunday (August 18).

It is known that despite the knowledge about the activities of the organization called Uttaran, the previous director of the Student-Teacher Center, Professor Dr. Alamgir Kabir. After that, when Professor Ahmed Reza became the director, he maintained it. On Sunday afternoon around 3:30 pm, when a search was carried out in the passage room located in the Student-Teacher Center, the banner of the Chhatra League, batons and winter clothes worth lakhs of rupees were found there. Accusing the Director of Student-Teacher Center of involvement in the incident, the students demanded his resignation and locked his office.

Zahidul Islam Emon, a student of Botany Department of the university said that the activities of Chhatra League have been encouraged in the name of cultural organization in student-teacher center. Not only this, winter clothes worth lakhs of rupees were found in this room, which should have been distributed last winter. Here, under the cover of a cultural organization called Uttaran, the terrorist organization Chhatra League was conducting political activities. Besides, the Director of Student-Teacher Center was directly connected with the political activities of Chhatra League in the name of transition. Professor Ahmed Reza has lost the qualification to manage the centre. We demand the immediate resignation of this dysfunctional director.

Tanzim Ahmed, a student of the University's Department of Geography and Environmental Science, said that the additional director of the Student-Teacher Center, Professor Ashraful Habib, was declared undesirable by the students of his own department for supporting the attack on the students. He also qualified to be in charge of student-teacher center. We are demanding the resignation of Professor Ahmed Reza as well.

In this regard, Professor Ahmed Reza said, if the students want, then I will resign. No wrong message should go to the students. I was in favor of the movement. When Jahangirnagar theater organized road plays during the agitation, I helped them by giving them 2 thousand rupees. I am ready if students want to talk to me.

Students complain that Professor Ahmed Reza is not available in TSC. He is not even available on mobile phone.

In this regard, he said, I don't keep my mobile phone with me, I leave it at home and go out. At night I return home and call back one by one.

Meanwhile, philosophy department professor Dr. The students staged a protest march and human chain in front of the department in the new Faculty of Arts and Humanities building with four-point demands, including the resignation of Farid Ahmed. After the protest march, they held a short rally at Shahid Minar.

Their other demands are that elections should be organized by the students' council as soon as possible, the damage caused to the students in the recent chaotic situation should be compensated as soon as possible and all the classes and examinations of the department should be held on time.

Samiha Tasnim, a student of the 47th batch of philosophy department, said in the gathering that on the night of July 15 and early morning of July 16, the Chhatra League supported by the Awami government launched a surprise and hellish attack on the students with sharp weapons and batons. More than half a hundred students were injured. After this hellish attack, when all the teachers came to our side, he still opposed us and called us Razakars. Even when the police opened fire on the students on July 17, he instead told them to continue firing on the students. We do not want such unscrupulous people in our department. He should apologize publicly and resign from his position immediately.
