Khilafat Majlis demands formation of independent commission of inquiry in Pilkhana murder

The Khilafat Majlis has demanded a re-investigation of the killing of 74 people including 57 army officers in Pilkhana in the name of BDR rebellion.

In a statement on Monday, the Amir of the Khilafat Majlis Maulana Abdul Bashit Azad and the Secretary General Dr. Ahmad Abdul Quader said, 15 years ago on February 25, 2009, the tragic incident of BDR headquarters Pilkhana which was part of a deep conspiracy against the country and the armed forces of the country has come up again in the words of the victims. On that day, 57 patriotic brave army officers, 74 army family members and common people lost their lives. In the history of Bangladesh, such a large number of army officers were killed in a single day.

This incident took place at the beginning of the dictatorship of Sheikh Hasina. Due to which the investigation and trial process which has been completed so far by hiding the real culprits was not correct. Many patriots and brave army officers lost their jobs in seeking justice for this incident. Many officials were jailed and tortured. Many innocent members of BDR have also lost their jobs and have been jailed.

It is said in the statement that the victims have alleged the involvement of the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and others close to them in this incident. Therefore, in the interest of justice and to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future, an independent commission of inquiry should be constituted. We urge the government to immediately constitute this commission and bring the real culprits under exemplary punishment. Also, I am calling for better treatment of the injured students in the anti-discrimination student movement.
