Vice President Kamala Harris will attend a campaign rally in Milwaukee tonight, while her husband, Doug Emhoff, delivers a speech at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
These events come at a crucial time in the 2024 presidential race. Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, are traveling 90 miles north to Fiserv Forum to connect with voters in key battleground states. At the same time, Emhoff will be speaking at the DNC.
Emhoff is expected to discuss themes similar to those Harris will address, including their journey as a couple, their blended family and her relationship with his children, and Harris’s rapid political rise.

Emhoff, who became America’s first Second Gentleman, has been an active part of Harris’s campaign since she was nominated in July. His reaction to Harris’ surprise appearance on stage on Monday went viral, drawing more attention to tonight’s events.
Harris and Walz’s decision to hold a rally in Milwaukee, coinciding with the ongoing DNC in Chicago, is part of their effort to keep voters engaged. The rally, scheduled for 9 p.m. ET, will be livestreamed to convention attendees in Chicago, ensuring that both events stay connected and maximize voter engagement.
The Harris campaign has also organized a watch party for rally attendees in Milwaukee’s Deer District, further engaging local supporters. This strategy highlights the campaign’s focus on being present in critical locations.
Harris and Walz are expected to discuss key issues like healthcare, the economy, and voter rights—all central to their campaign—in Wisconsin, a critical state for both parties this election cycle.
Emhoff is expected to emphasize the stakes of the upcoming election and may also touch on his Jewish heritage and activism against antisemitism. This comes at a critical time for the Harris-Walz campaign, as they face criticism over Biden administration policies on the Gaza conflict, with pro-Palestinian protests continuing outside the United Center in Chicago.
The couple will reunite on Thursday when Harris formally accepts the nomination in Chicago. This day also marks their 10th wedding anniversary, a milestone Emhoff noted on X earlier this week.
Former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama will also speak at the convention tonight, offering their support for Harris as the party’s nominee.
The Harris campaign announced on Tuesday that several prominent Republicans, including former U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger, former Georgia Lieutenant Gov. Geoff Duncan, and former Trump White House staffers Olivia Troye and Stephanie Grisham will also speak at the convention. All have become vocal critics of Trump, adding a bipartisan element to the event.
