Due to several days of heavy rain, residential houses, rural roads and educational institutions of 9 upazilas of Noakhali have been submerged in water. Hundreds of thousands of people are trapped in water. This has caused fear of flood among people.
Most of the low-lying areas of Sadar, Senbagh, Sonaimuri, Chatkhil, Begumganj, Kabirhat, Companyganj, Subarnachar upazilas of the district have been flooded. The residents of the upazila are suffering. Aman paddy fields, vegetable fields are submerged in water. Farmers in many areas are not able to plant Aman paddy for food due to high water in the fields. 2 million people are trapped in the floods. Water is also entering roads and houses.
According to meteorological sources, Noakhali has received 174 mm of rain in the last 24 hours. Rain may continue for next few days.
Kamal Uddin of Chramtua village of Sadar Upazila said that the water has risen around the house due to heavy rains for several days. The village road is submerged. Water has entered the house. No one in the house is able to leave the house. Suffering.
Saich Babar, a resident of Kabirhat upazila, said that he had to walk through knee-deep water. Influential people have illegally fenced the fish in various places. Illegal structures have been constructed by occupying the canal. Houses have also been constructed by occupying canals. Due to which the water is not coming down. If the army demolishes these illegal structures and clears the canal, there will be no flooding.
Khurshid Alam of Senbagh Upazila said, 'Water has accumulated in the courtyard of the house due to continuous rain. Water in the kitchen. I could not even cook today because of the water. Tubewells contain dirt in the water. We are helpless.'
Siraj Uddin, a farmer of Subarnachar upazila, said, 'Agricultural land in most areas of Subarnachar has been submerged. The seedbed is destroyed. The farmer is sitting with folded hands. If the administration had arranged for water drainage, the farmer would have survived.'
Ghiyas Uddin, a resident of Companyganj upazila, said, 'Everything including the fish enclosure has been washed away. I have never seen so much water before. When it rains, the water goes down, but this time the water is not coming down.'
All the roads of Noakhali district city are under water. Public and private offices, school-college grounds, water soil in various residential areas. Waterlogging has occurred in every ward of Noakhali Municipal City. Water has entered the houses of municipal residents.
Noakhali Meteorological Officer. Rafiqul Islam said that there has been continuous rainfall due to the low pressure created in the Bay of Bengal. 174 mm of rain has fallen in the last 24 hours. Fishermen have been asked to stay ashore as warnings are issued at sea.
Executive Engineer of Water Development Board Noakhali, Munshi Amir Faisal said, 'Noakhali has received a record amount of rain. Which has not happened in the last 20 years. Besides, the water cannot go down because of the tide. We have excavated 161 km of canals in and around the city as a flood control project. By doing this, water is supposed to be drained in all upazilas. Moreover, maintenance of drains and drains is necessary to get rid of waterlogging completely.'
Deputy Commissioner Dewan Mahbubur Rahman said, 'We are working to resolve the waterlogging with the cooperation of all. Work has already started to normalize the water by cutting various illegal dams. If the rainfall decreases, the water will decrease.'
He said that heads of all secondary, primary and madrasahs at the upazila level have been asked to provide shelter to the flood-affected people. Where necessary cooperation is being done.
