Sheikh Mujib has suffered the tragic consequences of his actions: Pak PM

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has made explosive comments about the former president of Bangladesh, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He said the person who led the anti-Pakistan movement has finally met his tragic end.

He said this while referring to the demolition of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's sculpture after the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government in the face of mass protests and popular uprising by students.

Pakistani media Geo News reported this information in a report on Wednesday (August 21).

Referring to the demolition of a statue of Bangladesh founder Sheikh Mujibur Rahman during recent student-led protests, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the anti-Pakistan movement had met its tragic end.

Hasina and her sister fled to India in a military helicopter after the Sheikh Hasina-led government fell due to massive student protests. Later the angry mob vandalized several statues, pictures and murals of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The protests, which began in early July last year, were followed by a massive crackdown by the then government, resulting in violence that left more than 400 people dead and thousands injured. The protestors started this protest demanding cancellation of quota in government jobs.

Referring to the demolition of the statue of the former president of Bangladesh, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said, 'The results of one's actions return to oneself'. According to him, Sheikh Mujib divided Pakistan.

Speaking about the speech delivered at the National Youth Convention in Islamabad, Prime Minister Shehbaz further said that Pakistan has sacrificed thousands of lives and caused an economic loss of US$ 150 billion in the fight against terrorism.

He further said, 'Not only Pakistan, the whole world has benefited from Pakistan's role in eradicating terrorism.'

The National Youth Convention held in Islamabad was attended by Union Ministers of Pakistan as well as Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir, Chairman Higher Education Commission, teachers, vice-chancellors and students from across the country.
