Flood water has started receding in Akhaura

The flood water has started receding in Brahmanbaria's Akhaura. However, residents of several areas are still waterlogged. As there has been no rain since Friday (August 23) morning, water has started receding from the submerged low-lying areas of the upazila.

Executive Engineer of Brahmanbaria Water Development Board. Manjur Rahman confirmed the matter and said that the flood water has already started receding in Akhaura. On Thursday, the Howrah river water was 5.79 meters above the flood limit. However, it has come down to 5.70 meters since morning.

Akhaura Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ghazala Parveen Ruhi said that the water level of Howrah river has started decreasing due to lack of rain. 1 thousand 695 families in the upazila are watertight. According to the latest information, 10.5 tons of rice, 500 packets of dry food and pure water have been distributed in the upazila.

Meanwhile, after 8 long days, the sun has been seen in Noakhali. Even though the Meghna River has begun to descend, two million people are stuck in water.

The District Meteorological Office says that it has been raining continuously since August 16. This increases the waterlogging and it turns into a flood as the water of the Muhuri river enters.

The flood situation in Noakhali is deteriorating day by day due to continuous rain. 2 million people are trapped in water. More than 40 thousand people have settled in about 4 hundred shelters.

Companiganj Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md. Anwar Hossain Patwari said, Companyganj is fairly good considering all the water pressure from rainfall, tides and fog.

Sonagazi regulator has been commissioned, Muchapur regulator will be commissioned shortly. Water flow is normal. For now, some fears have subsided. Heavy rainfall and water stress in India will depend on what the flood situation could be.
