The flood water has not receded in four unions in Chittagong's Mirsrai. Among these unions, many residents of Karerhat, Dhum and Hinguli have taken shelter in shelters. Rajinitaka and various voluntary organizations are working with the upazila administration to rescue people trapped in water.
According to Mirsrai Upazila administration sources, Kerhat, Dhum, Hinguli, Ochmanpur, Katachhara, Ichakhali, Khaiachhara and Mayani Union of the upazila have been inundated the most in this flood.
79 shelters have been opened for the safe shelter of water-bound people. At least 20,000 people have taken shelter in these shelters till Saturday morning. The upazila administration is providing clean water and food to the shelters.
The Army has set up two camps in Zorarganj and Kerhat Unions of the upazila to rescue and provide medical services to people trapped in water.
Mirsrai upazila executive officer Mahfuza Zerin said, the flood situation is deteriorating in Mirsrai. 16 monitoring teams have been formed for 16 unions of the upazila to deal with the situation. About 20,000 people have been brought to shelters.
He also said that 50 tons of rice and 4 lakhs in cash have been allocated by the government to the flood-affected people. The army and volunteers are providing sufficient support in conducting rescue operations, providing medical services and supplying food and water.
