Various villages are gradually getting flooded after the Gomti river burst in Burburia of Comilla's Burichong upazila. About 250,000 people of two upazilas have become waterlogged due to river water entering the locality. The suffering of the common people has reached an extreme level due to lack of electricity and food shortage.

Although many organizations and individuals have come forward to deliver relief aid to these water-bound people, many are deprived due to lack of boats or speedboats. Some are starving and some are half-starved. Even if relief is brought to the flood-hit areas, it is not possible to reach due to lack of boats. Volunteers are also rescuing people from some shelters due to rising water.

Meanwhile, Gomti water has flooded various unions of Burichong upazila in the last two days, but this time, due to the erosion of the Salda river in the north of the district, a wide area in Brahmanpara upazila is rapidly being flooded. 10 villages including Nagaish, Ganga Nagar, Manra, Molika Dighi, Kalem Koori, Deus, Choubbas of Shasidal Union of this upazila were flooded.

Locals are trying to protect the embankment with sandbags. In Daulatpur area of ​​Shasidal Union of Brahmanpara Upazila. Gomti water on one side and Salda river on the other side surround Burichong and Brahmanpara upazilas. The communication system is also broken in the water of two rivers. There is no mobile network in many places. As a result, common people are suffering indescribably.

Meanwhile, the Salda river flowing between Comilla and Brahmanbaria is also flowing far above the Bipatseema. As a result, thousands of people in hundreds of villages along the river banks are at serious risk.

Muslim Mia, a resident of Bagra area of ​​Brahmanpara upazila, said that the Salda river dam broke in our area. Everyone comes to see the dam break, no cooperation. I am helpless.'

Matin Mia, a resident of Burburia in Burichong Upazila, said, 'I am on the road with my family. All houses are finished. We are getting relief. But there are my sisters and nieces inside the area and no one goes to them to give relief.

Mahfuzur Rahman, a member of Apex Club of Comilla who came to provide relief in Burichong Upazila, said that many people are trapped inside the village. Many people do not go there because there are no boats. We are trying to get there. I request everyone to deliver relief to the people inside the village even if it is difficult.

Khan Mohammad Waliuzzaman, executive engineer of Water Development Board Comilla, said that due to continuous rains and Indian floods, water has increased in Gomti rivers and canals of Comilla. At last till 5:00 pm on Saturday, Gomti river water is flowing 92 cm above the danger line.

Apart from this, various social and political organizations are providing food assistance to the water-bound helpless. Army, police and district administration people are working in the field.

District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Mohammad Abedya Ali said that out of 17 upazilas of the district, 14 upazilas have been affected by floods. 120 unions were flooded. Our government relief program is ongoing. Apart from this, various banks, NGOs, voluntary organizations, political parties are running their relief activities. Burichong Upazila is surrounded in such a way that it is difficult to get boats easily. Still we are trying to get the boat. Various voluntary organizations have started work by bringing boats and speedboats.'

Apart from this, various areas of 17 upazilas including Chauddagram, Adarsh ​​Sadar, Devidwar, Muradnagar, Homna Titas have been flooded. 1 million people were deprived of water. Houses, educational institutions, mosques, temples and crop lands were destroyed.

Meanwhile, the mobile court has fined four shopkeepers a total of Tk 25,000 for selling Chira, Muri and LPG gas at exorbitant prices under the pretext of floods in Comilla.
