Students clash with Ansar in Secretariat, 30 injured

Dhaka University students chased and clashed with Ansar members in the Secretariat area of ​​the capital. 30 people were injured. The army reached the spot and controlled the situation. However, law enforcement forces fired several rounds of blank bullets and sound grenades to bring the situation under control.

The incident took place in front of the secretariat on Sunday (August 25) at 9:30 pm. The injured were rescued and brought to the emergency department of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMC). This was confirmed by Bachchu Mia, in-charge inspector of DMK Hospital police camp.

Earlier, the students of Dhaka University went to the secretariat on the news of the detention of many people, including the coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement and advisor to the interim government, Nahid Islam, coordinator Sarjis Alam and Hasnat Abdullah. At this time Ansar members chased the students.

Ansar members beat some people with sticks. Later, when the students threw brickbats, the Ansar members also retreated. At one stage of the conflict, the members of Ansar retreated around 10:15 pm. At this time, the students took a position in front of the National Press Club next to the Secretariat. At this time, several Ansar members were seen apologizing to the students. Then the students started chanting 'Bhua Bhua' against the Ansar members. At this time, the police tried to control the situation.

The students complained that when the students marched towards the secretariat from Dhaka University, the members of Ansar started pelting them with stones and stones. At one point Ansar members fired at the students. The students also complained of firing tear gas on the students. At least 30 students were injured in firing, brick pelting by Ansar members. They were taken to Dhaka Medical Hospital for treatment.

They said that when the news of the chase between students and Ansar members spread, thousands of students marched towards the secretariat. Then they chased the Ansar members. At one stage the members of Ansar were forced to flee in front of the secretariat. Later, members of the law and order forces went and normalized the situation. Later, Ansar members chased the students and fled from the secretariat.

Earlier, angry students gathered at the foot of the Raju sculpture when Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam announced their detention in a Facebook post around 8:30 pm. Later at 9 pm they started their journey towards the secretariat.

All come to Raju, coordinator Hasnat wrote in a Facebook post, alleging that Ansar members were besieged in the secretariat. Autocracy wants to come back as Ansar. All of us have been detained in the secretariat despite the demands being accepted.

Incidentally, Ansar members were protesting in front of the secretariat from today (Sunday) morning demanding the nationalization of jobs. At one point, a group of protesting Ansars entered the secretariat at noon. They entered the secretariat through gate number three, ignoring the obstacles of law and order forces. Later, Home Affairs Advisor Lt. General (Retd.) Md. When Jahangir Alam Chowdhury assured to accept the demands of their representatives, it was announced to suspend the movement. But after a while other members of Ansar started the movement again. They announced that they will continue the agitation until their demands are met.
