Letter to Ministry of External Affairs seeking security for Indian Visa Center – Bangladesh Diplomat

The Bangladesh High Commission has requested to increase security to avoid such a situation due to protests at the Indian visa center in Dhaka.

A note verbale has been sent to the Ministry of External Affairs on Monday, an official of the Indian High Commission said.

Earlier on Monday after noon, a number of visa aspirants went to the Indian Visa Center at Jamuna Future Park and expressed their anger as they did not get their visas. They protested by chanting anti-India slogans as they did not get visas.

A video of visa aspirants' protest has also gone viral on social media. It has been seen that the visa aspirants are chanting different kinds of slogans. 'One point one demand/ Visa Chai Visa Chai'; They are seen shouting slogans such as 'Brokers of India/Warning/''Give visa/or return money''.

Considering the situation arising due to the student movement, the Indian authorities gradually restricted their visa centers in Bangladesh. Earlier this month, India closed visa centers in Bangladesh indefinitely before the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government and the formation of an interim government.

Recently, the Indian Visa Center at Jamuna Future Park in Dhaka has started operations on a limited basis. Besides, other visa centers are still closed. Those who have submitted their passports to the visa center are in trouble. You have to rush to get your passport back.

An Indian High Commission official told news agency UNB overnight that the situation suddenly got out of control and people were threatened.

The official said that they are returning all the passports keeping their application forms intact, so that when the situation returns to normal, the applicants can submit their passports again.

He said that since many people are asking for the return of passports, we are returning the passports without canceling their applications.
