Nick Chubb Injury Update: When Will Browns Star RB Return to Field?

The Cleveland Browns are looking to get themselves back to the postseason this season. After finishing last year with a record of 11-6 despite a plethora of injuries, Cleveland is hopeful for better health.

One player that missed significant time last season was star running back Nick Chubb. Chubb suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 2 of last season and has been recovering since.

There have been questions about when Chubb would return to the field this season, and we got some initial answers on Monday. According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, Chubb will remain on the Physically Unable to Perform List, meaning that he will miss at least the first four games of the season.

With this news, Chubb should return to the field at some point but there is no official timeline. He has been doing running drills during training camp but hasn’t participated in any practice activities yet.

Once he is cleared to practice, the Browns will likely ramp him up to take the field. Cleveland may take some caution with Chubb once he does return to avoid potentially causing any extra damage.

Getting Chubb back could be massive for the Browns’ chances this season. In 2022, he was among the best running backs in the NFL, rushing for 1,525 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Until he returns, the Browns should rely on running back Jerome Ford. Ford took the place of Chubb after his injury last season, rushing for 813 yards and four touchdowns in his absence.

The team restructured Chubb’s contract over the offseason as he was entering the final year of his deal. This allows him to earn money back through different incentives.

While Chubb isn’t playing for at least four games to start the season, the Browns did get good news on quarterback Deshaun Watson. Both Watson and Chubb missed large amounts of time last season so getting them both back will be helpful as they look to make their claim in the AFC.

The Browns will have their work cut out for them in the AFC even if Chubb comes back at his full strength. With teams like the Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens, Houston Texans, Cincinnati Bengals, and others, Cleveland will need to be on their A-game each time out.
