The tender of 'The Boat' is cancelled, what is the fate of Sheikh Hasina Stadium?

The name will change, the design will also change. Sheikh Hasina International Cricket Stadium in Purbachal will be known as 'The Boat' by another name. The portrait of the boat will be removed from its design.

After the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government, it is natural that many things have changed in this stadium. And so the Board of Directors of BCB led by Farooq Ahmed wants to proceed with the stadium on the principle of 'go slow'. As the first step of that policy, BCB is going to cancel the tender for the construction of the stadium.

Although August 30 is the last day to submit tenders, a source said that the decision to cancel the tender will be taken in the next day's meeting of the BCB Board of Directors. BCB got 37 and a half acres of land for the Sheikh Hasina Stadium at a nominal price after the board of former president Nazmul Hasan from the government. A complete cricket complex is planned to be built on that land under the project of about five thousand crore rupees, which will have an international standard cricket stadium and two fields.

Even though there are so many fields in Dhaka and outside Dhaka, there was a question from the beginning about the construction of 'The Boat' at the expense of BCB at this huge cost. Meanwhile, an Australian company called Populous was appointed as a consultant for the construction of the stadium.

According to board sources, BCB wants to stop all activities related to the construction of the stadium until a decision is taken in consultation with the Sports Ministry. However, arrangements will be made to build a field-wicket in place of this proposed stadium so that at least domestic cricket games can be played.
