Bangabandhu's decision to repeal the security law for family members

The Advisory Council has approved the decision to cancel the 'Father of the Nation Family Members Security Act 2009' made for the protection of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's family members. If the law is repealed, none of Bangabandhu's family will get special security.

Today (Thursday) chief advisor Dr. This decision was taken in the advisory council meeting held at his office in Yamuna under the chairmanship of Muhammad Yunus. Apart from this, the meeting also approved the proposal of Bangladesh to be a party to the international agreement against disappearances.

Environment Forest and Climate Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan gave this information after the meeting of the Advisory Council.

A press release sent from the Office of the Chief Adviser has also informed about the matter.

According to the press release, the provisions related to the provision of security to the family members of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman cannot be implemented in the administrative management, so the issue of security provisions of the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government is added along with the abolition of some provisions of the law, the advisor of the 'Special Security Force Amendment Ordinance 2024'. It was unanimously approved in the council meeting.

According to the notification, the 'Father of the Nation Family Members Security Act, 2009' (Act No. 63 of 2009) was framed and promulgated as per the decision of the previous government. Later on 15/05/2015 gazette was issued to provide special security and facilities as per the said Act. The Act was made to provide state privileges only to members of a family; Which is a clear discrimination.

Following the anti-discrimination student uprising, the current interim government is committed to eliminating all discrimination. At present, when the parliament is dissolved, it is necessary to take urgent measures in this regard and issue an ordinance to repeal this law. In this context, the draft 'Security of Family Members of the Father of the Nation (Repeal) Ordinance, 2024' was finally approved by the Advisory Council meeting subject to vetting by the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Department.
