On the second day, the students staged a protest march and blocked the road to demand the permanent expulsion of Manjurul Alam, Assistant Teacher of Mathematics of Sonahat Two-way High School, on the charge of molesting a female student in Kurigram's Bhurungamari.

Thousands of students from various educational institutions staged an hour-long protest at Sonahat Bazar and College Junction of the upazila from 11 am to 12 pm on Thursday (August 29). At that time, they blocked the college intersection of Bhurungamari-Sonahat Sthalbandar road.

Meanwhile, the accused teacher Manjurul Alam was temporarily expelled in an emergency meeting of the school management committee on Wednesday evening after the complaint was raised against the teacher.

It is known that a few days ago, a 10th class student of Sonahat Bimukhi High School went to take private lessons from BSC teacher Manjurul Alam. On finding the student alone, teacher Manjurul Islam touched her body and sexually assaulted her and forbade her to tell anyone about this incident.

Later, the victim girl told her friend about the incident. Gradually, when the incident reached all the students, on Wednesday (August 28) at noon, all the students of the school organized a human chain and protest march demanding the resignation of the accused teacher. Later, the students demanded that the teacher be permanently expelled from the school and exemplary punishment. The aggrieved student then filed a written complaint with the headmaster. Later, the headmaster called an emergency meeting with the school management council and teachers.

The accused mathematics teacher Manjurul Alam was temporarily suspended after finding the truth of the complaint in the meeting. But the students again blocked the road and protested on Thursday demanding the permanent expulsion of the accused teacher. Thousands of students from 5 nearby educational institutions participated in it. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Golam Ferdous, OC Ruhul Amin and Secondary Education Officer Abdur Rahman rushed to the spot after receiving the news. Later, the students lifted the blockade of the road when the accused teacher of UNO was assured of appropriate punishment.

When the accused teacher Manjurul Alam was contacted over the phone, the phone was found switched off.

Upazila executive officer and school president Golam Ferdous said that an investigation committee has been formed in this incident. Necessary action will be taken after receiving the report.
