Relief is not going to remote areas of Comilla due to lack of boats

Many areas of Comilla are still under water due to severe flooding caused by water coming down from India and continuous rain for several days. Meanwhile, Arifur Rahman Majumdar, a resident of Pipdda village in Raikot North Union of Nangalkot Upazila, is a centenarian. You can walk to the mosque by yourself; Also handle various household chores at home.

Arifur Rahman Majumdar's centenarian's house has also been submerged. He said that he had never seen so many tears in his eyes in his long life. Apart from this, the old man also expressed his anger about the relief of the Banvasids and said, I am about 110 years old now. I have never seen such a big flood, so much water in my life. I can't figure out where this water came from. Even my father had never heard of such a flood. People's houses are under water. All roads are submerged. Seeing the suffering of Banvasi people makes me feel bad. It hurts more when I see that those who are affected by floods, those who are suffering – they are not getting relief aid. Especially those whose houses are at the mouth of various roads and between Danga – they are getting more relief. But no one is looking for people whose houses are on the banks of rivers and canals. I would request those who are providing relief aid to share.

Arifur is not alone in making such allegations; Rather, many flood-affected people in remote areas have this complaint.

They say that many of those who are bringing relief from outside Comilla are coming in trucks. But all the roads leading to the flood victims are flooded. Somewhere the roads have broken again.

On the other hand, when the relief comes, the people around the road are crowding and blocking the car. They are getting relief again and again. It has been reported that car attacks are also taking place if relief is not received.

On Thursday, the water-logged people of different areas of Gomti river bank complained.

Burichong and Brahmanpara upazilas are practically floating on water due to the collapse of the protective embankment of the Gomti river and the erosion of the Salda and Ghunghur rivers. Burichong Upazila is currently receiving the most relief aid from different parts of the country.

When the relief vehicle arrives, it is surrounded by tangles. Due to which relief vehicles cannot move forward properly. Some cars push the crowd and advance a little, but many times they are unable to deliver the food to the destination due to the lack of boats.

Burichong Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sahida Akhter has acknowledged such a trend. He said, our entire upazila is still floating on water. The water level is constantly increasing. Food is being delivered to remote areas through Union Parishad secretaries. We are trying to distribute relief equally. In the meantime, relief vehicles have been attacked at several places. The army is working in the field. However, the amount of assistance required by the law enforcement agencies is not available. We are working on these issues.

Anwar Hossain, a resident of Nagaish area of Brahmanpara upazila, said that hundreds of villages of this upazila have been flooded. Banvasis are not getting enough relief here. The relief that is coming is ending up on the street. People in remote areas are suffering a lot. There is an acute shortage of clean water.

Brahmanpara Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) SM Azharul Islam said that the government allocation for this upazila is almost over. It is currently not possible for relief to reach here via Burichong. Because the water is so high, all roads are flooded. Those who want to help in the relief work for this upazila, they can enter Brahmanpara through Companyganj in Muradnagar. So I request everyone to bring relief aid.

According to the information of the district administration, the flood situation in Comilla has not improved even though the water has receded in some places. Out of 17 upazilas, 14 of these flash floods are showing a terrible form. In 14 upazilas, the number of water trapped people is about 11 lakh.
