India will continue to work with interim government: Jaishankar

India's Foreign Minister S Jaishankar said, 'India has to work with Bangladesh for common interests. India will continue to work with the government that is currently in power there.'

He said this while speaking at a function organized on the occasion of the release of the book 'Strategic Conundrums: Reshaping India's Foreign Policy' written by Rajiv Sikri in the capital Delhi on Friday (August 30).

Referring to the recent changes in Bangladesh, the Indian foreign minister said that it is natural that we will discuss with the government that is in power.

Jaishankar said, everyone is aware that since the independence of Bangladesh, the relationship between the two countries has gone through various ups and downs. It must be recognized that there is political change and that political change is often unexpected. Here we must look at the matter of mutual interest.

Before this, on August 17, the chief advisor of the interim government. The Prime Minister of India had a phone conversation with Muhammad Yunus. Indian broadcasting media NDTV said in a phone conversation. Muhammad Yunus assured the Prime Minister of India of full security of all minorities including Hindus in Bangladesh.

At that time, Narendra Modi wrote in a post on the social media X that he received a call from Professor Yunus, the chief adviser to the internal government of Bangladesh. The current situation was discussed.

Reiterating India's support for a democratic, stable, peaceful and progressive Bangladesh, he wrote in the post. He assured me of ensuring the safety and security of all minorities including Hindus in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh's former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled to India after resigning in the face of mass protests by students on August 5. Since then they are staying in India along with younger sister Sheikh Rehana.
