The imam of the mosque was fired for vandalizing the shrine in Sirajganj

In Sirajganj's Kazipur, the imam of the mosque was fired by the villagers for allegedly vandalizing a shrine and stomping on the shrine. When Imam Ghulam Rabbani came to offer Fajr prayers in front of Shalgram Jame Masjid in Mansurnagar Union of Upazila on Saturday, the Muslims dismissed him from his job. Earlier on Thursday night, under the leadership of Golam Rabbani, there was an incident of vandalism of Ali Pagla's shrine near Bamanjani Bazar.

According to local residents, around 100 people led by Imam Ghulam Rabbani in front of Jame Masjid in Shalgram Tamizuddin's house went to Ali Pagla's shrine near Bamanjani Bazar and carried out tandab. They vandalized all the structures of the shrine with hammers, spades, and shovels and climbed on top of the shrine and stomped on it. Immediately panic spread in the area.

The villagers became angry at this incident. Angry villagers staged a protest march at Shalgram Bazaar on Friday night to protest against the vandalism of shrines and foot injuries. At this time, hundreds of people shouted slogans like “You are who I am who is Muslim, Muslim is Muslim”.

In this regard, the musulli Azgar Ali and Abdur Rahman of Shalgram Jame Masjid said, how can one be a Muslim and insult the grave of another Muslim by stepping on his foot. Ghulam Rabbani, being the imam of a mosque, broke the shrine with a force and kicked it. We will not pray behind such an imam. He was fired immediately when he offered Fajr prayers on Saturday.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kazipur Police Station. Shahidul Islam said, I heard about the vandalism of the shrine. However, no one has brought a complaint to the police station in this regard so far. Further legal action will be taken if complaints are received.
