Hundreds of thousands of people protested in various Israeli cities demanding the resignation of Benjamin Netanyahu's government and a quick cease-fire agreement to rescue hostages held by Hamas.
According to a report by Reuters on Monday (September 2), millions of Israelis took to the streets in several cities including Tel Aviv on Sunday night to protest the rescue of six hostages from a tunnel in Gaza.
According to Israeli media, about 500,000 Israeli citizens took to the streets in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and other major cities on Sunday night.
The protesters called on the government to immediately agree to a ceasefire agreement to free the hostages held by Hamas. Many also demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Since the protests, a major labor union has called a general strike across Israel on Monday.
Al Jazeera says Sunday night's protests were the biggest since the Gaza war began nearly 11 months ago. Clashes between protesters and security forces were also reported that day.
Demonstrators 'Now! Now! chanted and demanded that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sign a cease-fire agreement with the Palestinian independence group Hamas and repatriate the remaining prisoners.
Many Israelis blocked roads in Tel Aviv and demonstrated outside Netanyahu's office in West Jerusalem.
Earlier on Saturday, Israel recovered the bodies of six hostages from a tunnel in the Rafah area. The six hostages killed have been identified. One of them is a US citizen.
Hamas released hundreds of hostages during a seven-day ceasefire in Gaza in November last year. Efforts are underway to reach a cease-fire deal in Gaza brokered by the US, Egypt and Qatar to release other hostages.
Meanwhile, Israeli brutality in Gaza does not stop. Israeli forces continued to attack despite a three-day ceasefire over the polio issue.
Netanyahu's forces carried out an airstrike on a school on Sunday. Several Palestinians were injured in this incident. According to the Ministry of Health of the Valley, more than 40 thousand people have been killed so far in Gaza by the attack of the Israeli forces. Millions of Palestinians were also injured.
