Anti-discrimination student movement press conference in Bhurungamari

Students involved in the anti-discrimination student movement held a press conference at Bhurungamari in Kurigram. The press conference was held at the Bhurungamari Press Club office on Tuesday (September 3) afternoon. In this, through written statements on behalf of the students, their position was clarified regarding the ongoing events of Bhurungamari and Sonahat land port. Besides, all activities of the anti-discrimination student movement in Bhurungamari were suspended from Tuesday till further instructions.

It was informed in the press conference that the anti-discrimination student movement has been wrongly presented in the news published about Sonahat land port. We strongly condemn it.

Students involved in anti-discrimination student movement went to Sonahat land port on August 17 based on some complaints and tried to find corruption there. However, corruption was not found there. Later, the students learned that a man accused of corruption had given false information to the students of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement for his personal gain.

On the other hand, the Bhurungamari Upazila Nirbahi Officer asked the students to move away from the land port for the sake of security as it is a border area. The students moved from there. Later, the news published in some media about the Sonahat land port has no link with the anti-discrimination student movement.

In different places of Bhurungamari, some overzealous students are doing vandalism, extortion, fighting and land grabbing etc. They have nothing to do with the anti-discrimination student movement. Besides, there have been shameful incidents of teachers being assaulted in different parts of the country. A real student cannot do such a thing. These actions were strongly condemned by the anti-discrimination student movement.

All activities of the anti-discrimination student movement in Bhurungamari have been suspended from Tuesday till further instructions.

Jamadus Sani Jewel, Yakub Ali Shravan and Washi Anan Antim, former coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, spoke at the press conference.
