3 people drowned in Sylhet

Three people, including a tourist and a child, died after drowning in separate places in Sylhet's Companyganj. These accidents took place on Tuesday (September 3) in Bholaganj Sadapathar and Kathalbari villages of Paschim Islampur Union.

A tourist named Ragib Yasar (19) died after drowning in Bholaganj Sadapathar at around 4 pm on this day. Deceased Ragib is the son of Ahsan of Savar, Dhaka. His village home is in Thakurgaon.

The friends who came with him said that they came to visit Sadapathar with some friends. They reached Sadapathar at 4 pm on Tuesday. While everyone was preparing to bathe in the water, Ragib went down into the water alone. After entering the water, he drowned in the current. Everyone searched but could not find him.

Later local businessmen and boatmen rescued him dead after 30 minutes of searching. On getting the information, Companyganj fire service leader Khairul Alam and other members reached the spot and took the body to Companyganj health complex. On the other hand, on the same day, Aryan and daughter Munsura of Abdul Ghafoor Mia's son Aryan and daughter Munsura of Kathalbari village in West Islampur Union of the upazila drowned. They died by falling into the pond next to the house.

Locals said that two children were playing near the house. They suddenly fell into the pond due to carelessness. They were immediately rescued by passers-by. Later, when the relatives took them to the Upazila Health Complex, the doctors on duty declared them dead.

Companyganj police station officer-in-charge (OC) M Badiuzzaman confirmed the truth of the incident.
