After hearing the remand application, the CMM court remanded former IGP Abdullah Al Mamun for eight days and Shahidul Haque for seven days. Besides, the court granted eight days remand of police officer Abdullahil Kafi.

Earlier on Tuesday night, Shahidul Haque was arrested from Uttara and Abdullah Al Mamun from Tejgaon in Dhaka was mentioned in the remand application.

Police say that former IGP Abdullah Al Mamun has been arrested in the case of the killing of grocer Abu Saeed in Mohammadpur, Dhaka, during the indiscriminate firing of students during the anti-quota movement.

On Wednesday morning, he was produced in the CMM court and the police applied for a 10-day remand. Later the court granted remand for eight days.

According to the remand application, on July 19 at 4 pm during the agitation in Mohammadpur, he was shot dead by the police while crossing the road to a safe place. The bullet entered through one side of his head and exited through the other. Abu Saeed, a poor grocer, was shot dead by the police.

Later, a case was filed in this incident. It is said that the unidentified policemen shot and killed Abu Sayeed on the orders of the accused without any provocation.

Other defendants in this case include former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman, former Intelligence Police Chief Harun Or Rashid, police officer Biplab Kumar and former DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman and many others.

In the remand application, the police told the court that Abdullah Al Mamun was arrested from Tejgaon, Dhaka at 12:30 pm. It has also been mentioned in the application that their remand has been sought for the sake of fair and impartial investigation of the case.

According to DMP, Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun was in army custody. Due to the case against him, he expressed his desire to commit suicide while in army custody. He was later taken into police custody. After the arrest, he was taken to the DB office.

Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun joined as IGP on 30 September 2022. After the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government, he was sent into retirement.

Shahidul Haque remanded in the case

Former IGP Shahidul Haque has been arrested in the case of the shooting death of businessman Abdul Wadud in Dhaka's Newmarket area. In the morning he was also produced in the court and the police applied for a 10-day remand. After the hearing, the court granted a seven-day remand.

According to the remand application, hundreds of sound grenades, tear shells and rubber bullets were fired at innocent people with the intention of killing them by directly and indirectly participating in a peaceful procession in front of gate number one of Newmarket during the movement on Friday, July 19 at 5 pm. Many were injured on the spot. Among them, Abdul Wadud was shot in the back of the head by the accused and died on the spot.

It has been mentioned in the remand application that Shahidul Haque was arrested in a raid from Uttara Sector 18 at quarter past one on Tuesday night.

It has been said that in the preliminary investigation, the evidence of the involvement of the accused in the incident of this case is being found. He applied for a 10-day remand in the interest of fair investigation and justice. Later the court granted seven days.

Shahidul Haque was appointed as IGP on December 30, 2014. He was in charge till January 31, 2018.


Additional Superintendent of Police Abdullahil Kafir remanded

There are multiple cases including murder case against two former top police officers. This is the first time that a person of the rank of Inspector General of Police has been arrested. Apart from this, the court granted an eight-day remand to Dhaka District Additional Superintendent of Police Abdullahil Kafi in Hazaribagh police station kidnapping case.

Kafi was also produced in the court along with two former IGPs at 7:30 on Wednesday morning. The police applied for a 10-day remand. The court granted eight days for the hearing.

It is said in the remand application, while on duty as Additional Deputy Police Commissioner of Dhanmondi Zone, on February 17, 2019, the plaintiff was abducted from Bashundhara residential area between 2.30 pm and 4.00 pm and 2.00 am on August 10 from Dhanmondi Road No. 2 between Popular and Anwara Hospitals.

After that, the plaintiff mentioned in the application that he was detained at an unknown place under Hazaribagh police station and collected a huge amount of money as ransom from the family. Former IGP Benazir Ahmed, police officer Maruf Hossain Sardar, Ikram Ali Mia are also absconding accused in this case. There are also other accused.

Meanwhile, Diamond World Managing Director Dilip Kumar Agarwala was also arrested during the night. Earlier on Tuesday evening, the CID had announced the initiation of investigation in the money laundering case against him.


As many cases and arrests of leaders and officials so far

More than 100 cases have been filed against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina since August 5. This includes cases like murder, genocide and kidnapping. Last on August 29 former Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi was arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

After Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled to India on August 5, several members of her Awami League government's cabinet tried to leave the country through Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Former Minister of State for Information Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak was detained from the airport. Former Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud was arrested shortly after that on the same day. Immigration police detained him.

Airport sources confirmed to BBC Bengal that they were handed over to the army.

However, later Palak, Saikat and former Deputy Speaker Shamsul Haque Tuku were arrested on the same day from Nikunj residential area of ​​Khilkhet police station while hiding. However, the law and order forces have not yet said anything about the former foreign minister Hasan Mahmud.

At that time, media reported that Chhatra League Dhaka University Branch General Secretary Tanveer Hasan Saikat and Dhaka Metropolitan Branch General Secretary Riaz Mahmud were also arrested. However, there is no information about whether they have been handed over to the army or not.

Meanwhile, after the fall of the government, cases of genocide, murder, disappearance etc. are being filed against many leaders of the party including Awami League President Sheikh Hasina. Many of them have been arrested like Tipu Munshi, many have been remanded.

Those who have been arrested so far are notable – former Law Minister Anisul Haque, former Education Minister Dr. Dipu Mani and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's advisor and Beximco Group Vice Chairman Salman F Rahman. Besides, Awami League's organizing secretary Ahmed Hossain, former Minister of State for Liberation War Affairs AB Tajul Islam, former Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu, former Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Rashed Khan Menon have also been arrested.

As government ministers, state ministers and Awami League leaders have been arrested, many former officials have also been detained.

Among them, one of the discussed army officers is Major General Ziaul Ahsan, former director general of National Telecommunication Monitoring Center NTMC. After the fall of the government on August 5, he was relieved of his duties.

As well as the former Chairman of Chittagong Port, Rear Admiral Mohammad Sohail, who was once working in RAB, has also been arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Intelligence Police.

However, many people are criticizing the way Awami League leaders and activists are being arrested around the death of the anti-quota movement in Bangladesh.


Concealment and military custody

After the fall of the Awami League government in the face of mass protests in Bangladesh on August 5, around 626 people, including political party leaders, judges, government bureaucrats, police officers, were sheltered in various cantonments. Of these, 515 are members of the police, out of which 28 are police officers. Most of the asylum seekers left the cantonment later on their own initiative. Now there are seven.

Besides, four asylum seekers have already been handed over to the law enforcement agencies based on various complaints or cases.

It should be noted that ever since Sheikh Hasina left the post of Prime Minister and fled abroad, there have been attacks, vandalism and looting of Awami League offices, houses and businesses of Awami League leaders and activists in most districts of the country. In this situation, many of the top leaders of the party covered their heads in search of safe shelter. Awami League president Sheikh Hasina and many leaders fled abroad.
