National Committee on Electricity-Fuel Special Act Review

The National Committee has been set up to review contracts executed under the Rapid Expansion of Supply of Electricity and Energy (Special Provisions) Act, 2010 (Amended 2021). The Ministry of Electricity, Energy and Mineral Resources gave this information in a notification on Thursday (September 5).

According to the notification, the members of the committee are – Retired High Court Judge Moinul Islam Chowdhury, BUET Professor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Abdul Haseeb Chowdhury, Former COO of KPMG Bangladesh Ali Ashfaq, Former Lead Economist Dr Zahid Hossain, University of London Faculty of Law and Social Sciences Professor Moshtaq Hussain Khan.

The National Committee can basically collect information from any source and audit any necessary documents, can call any concerned person or institution for hearing.

Besides, the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources will make recommendations on further activities based on the audit whether the interests of the government have been preserved in the contracts already executed under the Rapid Increase in Supply of Electricity and Energy (Special Provisions) Act, 2010 (Amended 2021). Provide secretarial and ancillary support to the Committee.
