Principal of Jadunandi Navakam Palli University College of Saltha Upazila of Faridpur for harassing students for not supporting the anti-discrimination student movement. Obaidur Rahman was allegedly beaten with a hammer. Later, the students forced him to sign the resignation letter.

The incident took place in the college around 10 am on Thursday. A video of the forced signing of the resignation letter has gone viral on social media.

The students of Navkam Palli University College have complained that Principal Obaidur Rahman has been corrupt and illegal as a friend of the Awami government since joining the college. College students were harassed by the police instead of supporting the anti-discrimination student movement. Since the fall of the Awami League government, we have been agitating for his resignation. I have also made a human chain. Finally on Thursday he resigned of his own accord. We are happy with that.

Obaidur Rahman said, when my son and I entered the college on Thursday morning, the students of Lalon, Monir and some students, the assistants of the influential local Awami League leader Qayyum Molya and member of the college board of directors Kamrul Gazi, forced us down the car and took us inside a garden. They took us there and beat us with hammers and injured us. Later, some non-students and some students forced me to sign the resignation letter.

He also said that most of the protestors are students. Kamrul Gazi, who is basically involved in Awami League politics, submitted a fake bill of 1 lakh 70 thousand taka to me a few months ago, showing his power. He was angry that I did not sign the bill. Since then Kamrul Ghazi and Qayyum Molya followed me. Finally, he beat me and forced me to sign the resignation letter. I want a fair investigation into this incident. We demand justice for the attackers.

However, Kamrul Gazi, a member of the college management board, denied these allegations and said, “I am in the Faridpur office.” I know nothing about these things. Principal is only spreading false propaganda in my name.

Attempts were made to contact the other accused, Qayyum Mola, but he could not be found.

On receiving the news, I went to the spot with army and police personnel. At that time, there was no truth in the complaints of the students. Later we settle the incident.

At this time, the students gave a written statement saying that they will no longer protest. But suddenly the principal was beaten up in a terrorist manner and forced to sign the resignation letter. It is by no means desirable. The current government is also against it. I have come to know that the students and some miscreants are doing these incidents with the help of two local people named Kamrul Gazi and Qayyum Molya. I sent the army and police to the spot after receiving the information. He also said that legal action will be taken after proper investigation of this incident.
