Killing at the border is brutal, it needs to be stopped: Dr. Yunus

The chief advisor to the interim government of Bangladesh and the Nobel Peace Economist have referred to the killing of Bangladeshi citizens by the Indian Border Guard Force BSF as 'cruelty'. Muhammad Yunus.

In a recent interview given to India's state-run news agency Press Trust of India (PTI), Muhammad Yunus said in response to a question regarding this, “If any untoward incident or situation occurs at the border, there are legal procedures to resolve it. Killing someone is never a solution.”

“The issue of border killings that has been discussed for the past several years…these killings are one-sided. Those who cross the border are very ordinary people. They have no desire, plan or power to take over your country. So killing them is actually a form of cruelty and this cruelty needs to stop.”

In the interview, Dr. also talked about the differences in the water distribution problem of the two countries, especially the Teesta Agreement. Muhammad Yunus. In this context, he said, “This is not a new issue, but a very old one. We have talked about this issue on many occasions in the past. We want to finalize the agreement, the central government of India also wants it, but the West Bengal government does not. We have to resolve this issue.”

Bangladesh's former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took refuge in India to leave the country on August 5 in the face of the student uprising. Three days after he left the country, an interim government was formed, with Yunus as its chief adviser.

After leaving Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina gave an interview to an Indian media on August 13. There, he said, those who carried out 'terrorist' activities in the name of the movement, must be investigated and prosecuted.

In an interview given to PTI, the interim chief minister said, “No one feels comfortable with Sheikh Hasina staying in India.” Because we want to bring him back to judge. He is based in India and speaks from there occasionally. This is causing problems. If he had remained silent, we would have forgotten. Even man would have forgotten it if he had lived in his own world. But he is sitting in India talking and giving directions, nobody likes it.''
