Freelance Contract | March – August | Approx. 2 days per week Remote-first with occasional office & event attendance

Decordia Events is a creative events company delivering high-impact live experiences for well-known UK brands and organisations. We’re known for running slick, well-organised events with great people at the heart of everything we do.

Our freelance crew play a huge role in our success, and we’re now looking for an experienced People Manager to take full ownership of our freelance staffing and crew management.

This role is for someone who is comfortable being the point person for crew issues – from onboarding and briefing, through to handling lateness, conduct and performance concerns professionally and decisively. You’ll be trusted to manage people matters end-to-end, allowing the Founder and delivery team to stay focused on the bigger picture.

If you’ve worked in live events, understand how quickly things move, and aren’t afraid of difficult conversations when needed, this role will suit you well.

The role in practice:

Crew recruitment & onboarding

  • Recruiting freelance crew for events, including interviews and selection
  • Managing a clear onboarding and offboarding process
  • Leading inductions for new and returning freelancers

Contracts & rates

  • Preparing and issuing freelancer agreements
  • Supporting day-rate discussions and negotiations where required

Compliance & crew readiness

  • Issuing and managing staff packs, health & safety documents and event paperwork
  • Ensuring all required documentation is completed and acknowledged before work starts

Event briefings & communication

  • Creating detailed event packs covering arrival details, schedules, expectations and kit lists
  • Setting up and managing WhatsApp groups for crew communication and lift-sharing
  • Acting as a key contact for crew questions and support

Logistics coordination

  • Arranging crew accommodation where required
  • Sharing travel, access and site information clearly and in good time

People & performance management

  • Managing lateness, conduct issues and performance concerns
  • Handling difficult conversations firmly, fairly and professionally
  • Escalating risks or recurring issues with clear recommendations

Work experience support

  • Coordinating work experience placements
  • Liaising with crew to ensure placements are structured and worthwhile
  • Providing guidance and oversight throughout placements

Process improvement

  • Reviewing how crew are managed and supported
  • Suggesting and implementing improvements to systems, templates and processes

Who this is for

You’ll be a strong fit if you are:

  • An experienced people manager, comfortable dealing with issues as they arise
  • From an events or live production background
  • Confident, calm and credible – people listen when you speak
  • Highly organised, systems-led and detail-oriented
  • Firm but fair, with a supportive leadership style
  • Comfortable challenging decisions and holding boundaries when needed
  • Proactive, solutions-focused and happy to work independently
  • Confident managing the full freelance lifecycle from recruitment to performance management

Contract details

  • Engagement: Freelance contract
  • Time commitment: Approx. 2 days per week
  • Contract period: March to end of August
  • Day rate: £250 per day
  • Working pattern: Remote-first
    • In-person requirement:
      Occasional attendance at our Trafford Park office/workshop
      • Presence at some events (not full-time)
  • Location: Manchester-based preferred but not essential
