A five-hour test on the new curriculum

The National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) has drafted the new curriculum assessment. The board has planned to implement the new evaluation system from June.

According to the draft, henceforth the examination will not be conducted in the previous manner. The test will now be called 'Assessment'. A written and practical 'assessment' of 5 hours will be conducted in each subject. And class-wise this 'evaluation' will be twice a year. It is said that the draft was finalized in the presence of representatives of education boards on Sunday (March 24).

NCTB Chairman Professor Md. Farhadul Islam said that a meeting was held on Sunday regarding the evaluation process. There was a detailed discussion. It was decided to return the examination system in the meeting. Another meeting will be held to finalize the matter.

As per the draft, each midterm and final exam will be of five hours duration. The evaluation process will continue from 10 am to 4 pm with a break of one hour. It will have six sessions. Four hours will be practical.

There will be summative evaluation in midterm and annual exams. Continuous assessment will be in the light of the new curriculum. SSC and HSC exams will be held at other centers. And the fourth to ninth class exam will be held in your own school.

This process will be evaluated in schools from June this year. NCTB member (curriculum) Professor Md. Mashiuzzaman said, experienced educationists have been drafted. Ministry officials will finalize the matter.

It is learned that there will be no marking rules in the new evaluation system exams. The results will be divided into three categories – 'Report Good', 'On Track' and 'Preliminary Stage'. There will be midterm and final exams for students of class IV to IX. SSC and HSC candidates will be evaluated through final examination.

Incidentally, there was a storm of criticism in the parent circles due to the lack of tests in the new curriculum. Parents started a movement to bring back the examination system, claiming that there is confusion about how students will be evaluated. In view of this, the government is going to take a new decision to bring back the examination system.
