Eid journey of relief for the people of the north

People are running to water the roots keeping the holy Eid-ul-Fitr in front of them. Although there was no usual pressure on the northern highways for the past few days, it was estimated that the pressure would increase to unbearable levels from today. That idea was very true. The traffic pressure on the highway of Sirajganj, the gateway to North Bengal, was gradually increasing since yesterday afternoon.

On top of that, on Monday (April 8), the pressure on Sirajganj's night highway has doubled as compared to day time due to industrial holidays. However, although the traffic pressure is gradually increasing, the people of the north have a comfortable and hassle-free Eid journey on the highway at night. So far, there has been no slowdown or traffic congestion anywhere.

From Monday evening till 2 a.m., such a scene was seen around the Bangabandhu Setu West Highway in Sirajganj. One car after another is rushing through the darkness of the night. Although the traffic pressure on the highway is gradually increasing, the highway traffic has gained a new speed due to the opening of four lanes of the highway, some overpasses, flyovers and newly constructed bridges. In the moments before Eid, such a scene was never seen before on the night highway of Sirajganj. As a result, no one traveling on this highway has to face any suffering till now. The police were seen to be active all over the highway. Along with passenger vehicles, people are seen returning home in many open trucks and pickups. However, the police believe that the traffic pressure may increase on Tuesday morning.

Garment worker Shapla Khatun is going to Dinajpur with her family from Dhaka for Eid. He told the media that every year I go home for Eid at this time. But I can never go so easily without jam (traffic jam). It feels really good now. I hope to reach my parents and loved ones very soon.

Pickup driver Rahim Sheikh told Dhaka Post while dropping off passengers in Kadda area, I was afraid that there would be a lot of traffic on the other side of the bridge (Bangabandhu Bridge). But I am coming very comfortably. There is no traffic jam or inconvenience anywhere. I heard that there is no jam ahead.

Hatikumrul Highway Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) MA Wadud from Hatikumrul Roundabout area said that the pressure of vehicles on the highway is increasing with time. I think this pressure will be a little more in the morning. But there is no suffering anywhere on the highway. All vehicles are running smoothly.

He further said, we were working thinking that today all the industries will be closed and due to this there will be a lot of pressure on the highway. We anticipate peak traffic on the highway today and tomorrow. We are working with that in mind. Besides, wreckers are kept ready so that if a vehicle breaks down, it cannot slow down or create traffic jams on the highway. We hope that there will be no traffic jams on the highways this year. We are determined to ensure a safe and hassle free journey for everyone.

Sirajganj Traffic Police Inspector (Administration) Md. Zafar Ullah Rubel said that the pressure of vehicles on the highway is gradually increasing, but the traffic is normal. All vehicles are moving at full speed. Even if the pressure increases further, it will not be a problem. We are working on those areas where there may be problems. I hope this time there will not be a traffic jam on the highway of Sirajganj.
