Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University of Science and Technology (Bashemurbiprobi) won the inter-university debate competition organized by 'Public University Students Association of Rajshahi (PUSR)' defeating Dhaka University (DU). Last Sunday (April 14) the prize of this competition was distributed at Rajshahi District Art Academy.
Member of Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) and teacher of Department of Mass Communication and ism of Rajshahi University (Rabi). Rajshahi City Corporation Mayor and Awami League presidium member Khairuzzaman Liton was present as the chief guest in the debate competition chaired by Pradeep Kumar Pandey.
Rabi's former vice-chancellor Professor Dr. was present as a special guest. Jahan Sajal of Sarowar, Professor Jannatul Ferdous of Social Work Department of Rabi, Principal Shafiqur Rahman Badsha, Member of Parliament of Rajshahi-2 Constituency and Engineer Shamsul Alam, Project Director of Ministry of Arts, Housing and Public Works.
The topic of debate was – 'This Parliament, Buet does not support student politics.' Dhaka University as the government team and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University of Science and Technology as the opposition team competed in it.
The members of the winning team are – Tanhim Rahman, a student of the 2017-18 academic year of Accounting and Information Systems Department, Mohammad Ali Toha, a student of the 2018-19 academic year of the Finance and Banking Department, and Naima Sultana, a student of the 2021-22 academic year of the Environmental Science and Disaster Management Department. Apart from this, Jannatul Ferdous, a student of the International Relations Department of 2019-20 academic year, Mamunur Rashid, a student of the Finance and Banking Department of the 2019-20 academic year, were also assistant debaters.
Commenting from among the winners, Mohammad Ali Toha said, “It is great to win the university in such a competition. At first we were nervous to see the opponent team DU. But soon it seemed, if we have the ability, we will succeed. At the end of the debate, I am very happy to win the result. I feel proud to represent the university.
After the ceremony, Rajshahi City Corporation Mayor and Awami League presidium member Khairuzzaman Liton handed over prizes to the winners. He congratulated both the winning and defeated universities and wished them all the best.
