In Bhangura upazila of Pabna, terrorists beat Manik Hossain (33), a reporter of the daily Khola Kagaz, and broke his leg for publishing the news of making fake milk.
The beating incident took place on Tuesday (April 16) at around 9 am in Puibil village of the upazila. During the beating, the terrorists took Manik's motorcycle and mobile phone. Manik was admitted to Pabna General Hospital with serious injuries.
Injured Manik is the son of Ismail Hossain of Kaidanga village of upazila. He is the Joint General Secretary of Bhangura Press Club.
According to the complaint, Rajeev Ahmed, a milk trader of Chak Lakshikol village of Dilpashar union of Bhangura upazila and Abul Bashar of Kaidanga village have been producing and marketing fake milk for a long time. A few days ago, some journalists including Manik Hossain recorded a video of making fake milk. When these videos were shown to the upazila administration and the police station administration, the local Awami League and civil society speakers requested the administration to take strict action against them.
Various news media published news about this. Enraged by this, twelve hired terrorists, including Bayezid, Rajib and Mahatab, led by Rajib Ahmed and Abul Bashar, found Manik alone on the Pubil road on Tuesday morning and beat him and broke his leg.
Later the locals rescued him and took him to the Upazila Health Complex. The hospital doctors shifted Manik to Pabna General Hospital as his condition was serious.
Injured journalist Manik said that since the publication of the news, the traders who made fake milk have been threatening him for days by coming to his house. At one point they beat me and broke my leg and made a video of the beating. My motorcycle and mobile were taken away. I am concerned about the safety of my family.
Upazila Health Complex doctor Ikramun Nahar Sheli said, X-ray showed that Manik's leg bones were displaced. Its treatment is not possible in Bhangura. So Pabna was sent.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhangura police station Nazmul Haque said that the police went to the spot. If a case is registered in this regard, the accused will be arrested and legal action will be taken. Besides, the issue of making fake milk is very much discussed at present. Legal action will be taken in this regard as well.
