A Kenyan military helicopter carrying top military officials, including the country's defense chief, General Francis Omondi Ogolla, has crashed. Several media outlets including BBC and AFP reported this news around 11 pm Bangladesh time, citing the country's police.
A senior Kenyan police officer told AFP the helicopter caught fire after it crashed and was carrying more than 10 senior commanders, including General Ogolla.
In this regard, the BBC reported, after the crash of the military helicopter, Kenyan President William Ruto called an emergency meeting of the country's Security Council. His spokesperson confirmed the matter.
According to local media, all those on the helicopter were senior military officers. Among them was General Francis Ogolla, Chief Military Adviser to the President. However, the BBC could not verify the authenticity of these reports.
According to reports, the helicopter came down in Kenya's Rift Valley and burst into flames. A report also stated that five people on board the helicopter were killed and at least three survived. Rescue teams have been sent to the accident site.
Kenyan government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura on social media has called on Kenyans to remain calm and avoid any speculation at this critical time. He also mentioned that a statement will be given soon by the government.
