A terrible fire has taken place in Chaumuhani Bazar, the commercial center of Noakhali. 12 units of fire service are working to control the fire. The incident took place on Sunday (April 21) around eight o'clock at Batamtala Road and Mosque Market area of the market. However, no casualties have been reported so far.
Locals said that the fire started from a cloth shop. More than 50 shops in the market have been burnt to ashes. Among them are several clothing stores, shoe godowns and even jewelry stores.
Choumuhani Fire Service first tried to control the fire, but later 12 nearby units came and tried to control the fire. They also said that the fire service has to speed up to extinguish the fire as there is not enough reservoir in the vicinity.
It is believed that many may be trapped inside in the fire. However, due to the crowd of eager people, the extinguishing work is being disrupted. Basically it is a famous wholesale market of Noakhali area. Traders from different areas of the district buy wholesale goods from here.
The mayor of the municipality, Khaled Saifullah, came to the spot immediately after the fire broke out. Police, Ansar and Red Crescent members are at the scene along with the fire service. No casualty was initially reported in this incident. However, extensive damage is expected.
