Abu Sayeed murder: Dipu Moni and Jai in court

Awami League Central Committee joint general secretary and former minister Dr. Arrested in the murder case of Abu Sayed, a grocer in Mohammadpur during the anti-discrimination movement. Dipu Moni and former deputy sports minister Arif Khan Joy have been produced in court.

Dipu Moni and Joy were produced in the court at around 3.20 pm on Tuesday (August 20). They have been lodged in the CMM court.

Meanwhile, Inspector Tofazzal Hossain of Mohammadpur Police Station has requested to remand them for 10 days for proper investigation of the case. The remand will be heard in the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka Sultan Sohag Uddin. At this time, they will be taken to court.

A person named SM Amir Hamza filed a case against Sheikh Hasina and Obaidul Quader in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury on August 13. The court directed the Mohammadpur police station to accept the complaint as a statement.

The other accused in the case are former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former IGP Abdullah Al Mamun, DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman, Additional Commissioner Harun-or-Rashid and Joint Commissioner Biplab Kumar.

According to the complaint of the case, thousands of people were marching in support of the quota reform movement at Basila 40 feet intersection under Mohammadpur police station at 4 pm on July 19. To suppress that movement, the police fired indiscriminately on the protesters. At that time, grocery shopkeeper Abu Saeed (45) was shot dead by the police while crossing the road to safety at the 40 feet intersection of Mohammadpur Basila. The bullet entered through one side of his head and exited through the other.

Local people said that after Abu Sayeed was shot and killed, the locals sent his body to Pradhanhat, the new slum of Marwa Bamanhat Union, Boda Upazila of Panchagarh District. He was buried there.

Deceased Abu Syed's village home is Sudur Panchagarh and his family is very poor, so they are unable to take legal recourse. For this reason, the plaintiff filed this case as a conscious citizen.

The petition stated that the quota reform movement was going on peacefully. The unidentified policemen fired on the orders of the accused without any provocation. The former prime minister and former bridge minister ordered to suppress the movement with strong hands. The other accused have ordered their subordinate policemen to quell the agitation of the students. Accused Asaduzzaman Kamal ordered the police to shoot at the students' procession.
