ACC's letter asking for information about the assets of Haroon, the police officer in question

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has written to several public and private institutions to investigate the alleged acquisition of illegal wealth by former head of Dhaka Metropolitan Intelligence Police (DB) Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid.

On Tuesday (August 20), an ACC source said, letters have been sent from the ACC head office to Bangladesh Bank, various financial institutions, sub-registry offices, land offices, passport offices, tax offices and election commissions, seeking information on Harun's assets. The letter sought various details of Haroon's movable and immovable assets.

On August 18, the ACC started an investigation against this police officer. The next day, Monday (August 19), a three-member committee was formed under the leadership of Zainal Abedin, deputy director of the organization.

It is alleged that this influential police officer owned two dozen houses, half a hundred flats and plots in the capital during the previous Awami League government. In addition, he has built a lot of wealth in other countries including the United States, Dubai and Jeddah, Canada.

Former DB chief Mohammad Harun Or Rashid has built a luxury resort called 'President Resort' in his area in Kishoreganj. The resort has been built on more than 40 acres of land in Hossainpur village of Ghagra union of Mithamain upazila. There are complaints that more than hundred crore rupees have been invested in this resort.
