In Sirajdikhan Upazila of Munshiganj, an employee of Agent Bank was kidnapped and beaten in the identity of handcuffs and robbed of 15 lakh 70 thousand taka.

The incident took place in front of Farooq's poultry farm in Kanthaltali village on Ishapura-Bhavanipur road of the upazila on Tuesday (January 14) noon.

The victim's name is Afzal Sheikh. He is an employee of Bhavanirpur Islami Bank Agent Branch of Jainsar Union of Upazila. He is the son of deceased Jasimuddin Sheikh of Bhavanirpur Paschipara village.

Munshiganj Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (Sirajdikhan Circle) ANM Imran Khan said at night, “We have started investigation by speaking to the scene and the person from whom the money was stolen. As far as I heard, Afzal Sheikh was picked up in a microbus and beaten up by the miscreants in the middle of the expressway's Nimtala Abdullahpur area. Afzal Sheikh could not say whether the people in the car were wearing law enforcement uniforms. The incident has not yet been reported to the police.”

Afzal Sheikh told reporters that he came to Ishapura by bus from Islami Bank Nimtala branch on Tuesday afternoon for Bhavanipur agent branch. He boarded a battery-powered auto-rickshaw to go to Bhavanipur agent branch from Ichapura. When the rickshaw reached in front of Farooq's poultry farm in Kathalatli village, a microbus stopped the rickshaw. Later, 4-5 people handcuffed him and took him to the car at gunpoint.

Afzal Sheikh also said that they broke Afzal Sheikh's glasses and blindfolded him. When asked about being blindfolded and handcuffed, they beat him up and said that he would be sent to court as there was a woman rape case against him. Later, the miscreants stole 15 lakh 70 thousand taka from him by threatening him and left him blindfolded in a secluded place on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway.

Kamal Sheikh, agent of Islami Bank Bhabanipur outlet branch in Sirajdikhan, said, “Afzal used to bring and take money like this. This has never happened. We have reported the matter to the police. Those who picked up Afzal were wearing DB jackets. We have seen the CCTV footage from where Afzal was picked up and also the video of Afzal being picked up.”
