Brahmanbaria's Akhaura land port has sunk due to heavy rains and water from India. At least 10 surrounding villages have been flooded. Traffic on Akhaura-Agartala road has been stopped due to the collapse of a temporary bridge due to water.

According to local and administration sources, heavy rain started in Akhaura from Tuesday night. From the morning, water started entering from India at a rapid rate through the canal running along the side of the port. Water entered at least 10 villages including Sthalbandar, Bautla, Birchandrapur, Kalikapur, Bangerchar, Sahebnagar.

South Union Parishad Chairman. Jalal Uddin said, in the morning, the Indian water started entering at a high speed. A few villages were flooded and a temporary bridge on the Akhaura-Agartala road was broken. The entire port area has sunk.

Akhaura Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ghazala Parveen said several villages have been submerged in water. Locals have repaired part of the dam together. The Roads and Highways Department has been informed to repair the bridge. But it will take time to make it suitable for traffic.
