All garment factories open from Thursday: BGMEA president

President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Khandkar Rafiqul Islam said that all garment factories in the country will be open from tomorrow Thursday as the security forces have ensured security.

He gave this information at an emergency press conference organized on Wednesday regarding the ongoing labor situation.

BGMEA president said that more than 100 garment factories were closed today. Some places have been attacked. Factories which were closed today will open from tomorrow. Khandkar Rafiqul Islam also said that all the garment factories in the country will be open from tomorrow as the law and order enforcement forces have assured BGMEA to maintain security in the garment factories.

He said, those who are causing trouble in the garment factory are outsiders. Internal problems are very few. BGMEA does not know who is attacking outsiders. It is the responsibility of law enforcement to find them. Even if there is trouble in the factory at the beginning of the month, there will be no delay in paying the salary.

Abdullah Hill Rakib, senior vice president of BGMEA, said workers are entering the factory every day. But outsiders come and make trouble.

Earlier on Wednesday, garment workers protested by blocking the road in Gazipur for various demands including equal rights for men and women in employment and recruitment. Due to the workers' protest at noon on this day, the owners announced a holiday in hundreds of garment factories in Gazipur, Savar and Ashulia.
